In the article, a lifelong vegatarian shares her experience of crossing over to the world of meat eaters. The understanding that grazing animals can heal the major issues impacting our grasslands around the world is enticing many vegetarians to indulge in a good burger and steak.

This administration has inherited policies that can only exacerbate poverty and conflict for years to come costing increasing civilian and military lives and money.

Central to a stable, prosperous Afghanistan are good corruption-free governance and sound land and agricultural policy that address the major cause of poverty, social breakdown and violence - fertile soil for dissident movements.

A second Green Revolution would further destroy Africa's soil and water in the long run and exacerbate the problems: food insecurity, bare land, soil erosion, increased drought and then flooding when the rains finally do come; increased pests and invasive plants; and the collapse of the river systems and groundwater stores.

What Africa needs is a revolution that mobilizes people to focus on local inputs and practices that produce food that grows in healthy soil (maybe a "brown revolution") and that enhances the social and economic fabric of the community and nation. Guess what? That brown revolution is possible and sustainable right now.

The interview focused on the 2010 Buckminster Fuller Award for the winning project Operation Hope. Operation Hope features the successes of Holistic Management at the Africa Centre for Holistic Management, the learning center just outside of Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Savory points out that the Africa Centre is a great example of the power of Holistic Management. At the site in Zimbabwe they now have open, flowing water, with water lilies and fish, a kilometer higher than they have ever known it to exist. He also points out that Holistic Management is not a new concept and is already being practiced and having success on over 30 million acres worldwide.

The entire interview can be heard on the New Hampshire Public Radio site and is entitled Saving Land With Livestock.
