Projek Aardwolf Features Africa Centre for Holistic Management

One of South Africa’s most watched environmental program’s, Projek Aardwolf, will feature two episodes on Allan Savory and Holistic Management, filmed entirely on Dimbangombe – headquarters for the Africa Centre for Holistic Management.  The two-part series will air on two consecutive Sundays – 20 and 27 June (18:30, KykNet channel), with 4 repeat showings during the week following each episode.

Produced and narrated by well known and much admired South African broadcast personality Johann Botha, the exposure this program will receive is anticipated to be very high.  Botha spent three full days filming on Dimbangombe last May:  “What struck me in going over the interviews with Allan, was that the more I listened the more excited I became, and at the same time the bigger my despair grew over every sentence that I had to axe or shorten because of my time constraints. . . .I wish I could do a third episode.”

Photos of Dimbangombe Success From Allan Savory

I took this photo on Monday, March 29th as our management herd moved in to start creating the firebreak around my study at my home. The rains are now almost over - usually end by April. It was not a good season but we could still double the cattle numbers again and we would increase the grass growth even more. The amazing amount of grass we have grown for both livestock and wildlife is because of the increased livestock and not despite their increase! We have had an amazing array of visitors as people "find" us  - from Uganda, Kenya, United Nations (FAO), South Africa, etc. all coming to see the incredible improvement in land, grazing and the river system done with our herding instead of paddocking. After nearly fifty years of experiencing the results of holistic planned grazing over hundreds of ranches in many countries frankly I have never seen anything as impressive as herding has achieved. If planned grazing is equivalent of gaining another ranch free then herding and overnight kraaling (corralling) with holistic planned grazing is like gaining two more ranches free!

Uganda Group Visit Dimbangombe

Allan Savory sent this photo of a group currently visiting Dimbangombe from Uganda to learn about Holistic Management. This diverse group includes representatives from national parks and wildlife authorities to cattle conservation representatives.

Allan describes his visit with this incredible group:

"I have been with them all day and it has been a day of great fun and learning. I am enjoying watching them respond in amazement as they learn how cattle and wildlife do not have to compete and just how much grass and forage is now growing in Dimbangombe, simply because of more cattle properly handled with planned grazing. They are equally amazed at how the cattle, elephants, impala, kudu, sable, etc are all coexisting and benefiting from the Dimbangombe site.
