The Savory Institute empowers people to properly manage livestock to heal the land by providing:
Training
The Savory Institute conducts large regional and national trainings that teach people around the world how to use holistic management to heal the land.
Consulting
The Savory Institute provides technical assistance to both individuals and organizations which are interested in changing their approaches to land management. For example, we are beginning to consult with private investors and the government of Tanzania in a large scale land management project that will provide benefits for the government, the Masai communities and entrepreneurs tied to the beef industry.
Materials and tools
The Savory Institute provides a variety of materials and tools to empower people to implement holistic management, including electronic books and planning charts.
Our Approach
The Savory Institute uses staff and a network of Learning Sites, Accredited Associate Consultants (ACs) and Educators (ACEs) to provide our training and consulting services. Our clients include pastoralists, policymakers, government agencies and NGOs working on land management issues.
Awards and Recognition for Empowering Others
Both Allan Savory and the Savory Institute have won a number of awards for their efforts to empower others to use Holistic Management to restore grasslands.
Banksia International Award
In 2003, Allan Savory won this award given to the person doing the most for the environment on a global scale.
USAID Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance
This organization identified holistic management as a way to empower people to reverse the Africa-wide cycle of failing surface and ground water, failing land productivity, massive drought, livestock deaths, famine, food aid and destocking.
Buckminster Fuller Challenge Award
The Savory Institute’s sister organization, the Africa Centre for Holistic Management, won the 2010 Buckminster Fuller Challenge Award for the organization working to solve the world’s most pressing problems.
TED’s “Ads Worth Spreading”
Allan Savory was featured in a video selected as one of TED’s “Ads Worth Spreading” in 2010, based on his ability “to engage in a dialog with [his] audience based on creativity, authenticity, and a shared pursuit of a better future.”
Keynote Address at United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change
In 2011, Allan Savory gave the keynote address at the United Nations Land Day 4 during the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Bonn, Germany.
